A smooth finish or a grain pattern does not tell you what a bag is made from. PU refers to polyurethane, which is used in synthetic materials and coatings that can imitate a leather appearance. Treat a PU leather description as a starting point for questions, not as proof that the complete bag is genuine animal-hide leather. Ask the seller to identify the outer material and its backing separately. A coating, backing fabric and lining are different components, and a short title may describe only one of them. If avoiding animal-derived materials is important to you, request confirmation about the complete construction rather than treating a PU label as certification. Likewise, words such as premium, luxury or leather look do not establish composition or a quality grade. Save the exact material description alongside the selected colour and supplier option so that you can compare another listing on the same basis.
Choose around the information you actually need
Start with your material preference, then decide which unanswered detail would change your decision. If you specifically want an animal-hide outer, look for an explicit, documented description of that component rather than relying on a close-up photograph. If you are considering a synthetic outer, ask which material is underneath the finish and whether the lining is included in the stated composition. Do not rank every PU bag below every leather bag, or assume the reverse, from those labels alone. Seam construction, attachments, closures and the way you use a bag also matter, and a material name is not a tested load rating. A buyer comparing bags for a rainy commute needs product-specific protection information; a PU surface alone does not establish that seams or openings keep water out. Set your budget after identifying the specifications that matter to you. Neither a higher price nor a discount substitutes for a clear answer about the offered option.
What the current Light Purple bag tells you
The Light Purple Wallet-Style Crossbody Bag linked below is currently offered as Light Purple / One Size under supplier SKU CJBHNSNS19304-Light Purple. The supplier describes a PU outer and nylon lining. This is supplier-listed information, not a laboratory composition test, and Crownley does not present this option as a genuine-leather bag or a certified animal-free product. Its matching original photograph shows a flap, a zipper and a narrow strap. Lettering visible on the photographed product does not make it Crownley-manufactured merchandise. The supplier description gives dimensions of nineteen by nine-and-a-half by four-point-two centimetres, without clearly identifying the axes or usable interior space. Those figures cannot establish whether a particular phone in its case fits. Compare the current option rather than assuming another colour in a general supplier image has the same purchase mapping. For a different material comparison, the current Black Canvas Tote is supplier-listed with a canvas outer and polyester-cotton lining; it is a different format, not a like-for-like capacity alternative.
Ask for care information before choosing a routine
A care method for another bag may not suit the coating, lining, adhesive or trim of the one you buy. Request the supplied care instructions before using leather conditioner, detergent, alcohol-based cleaner or a washing method. Do not experiment with a treatment merely because the surface resembles a familiar leather bag. For the featured Light Purple option, a verified product-specific cleaning method and backing composition are not available, so those remain questions to resolve if they are essential to your purchase. Recheck the live price, supported destination and published delivery and returns policy before ordering. Supplier factory availability is not proof of local warehouse stock or a promised arrival date. Read the original-condition and return-postage requirements before buying an item to test at home. The useful comparison is not simply PU versus leather: it is whether the exact bag has a documented material description, the functions you need and care requirements you are willing to follow.
